Creme Caramel (Caramel custard)

Creme caramel also known as caramel custard is an elegant dessert which is made by baking together milk,eggs and sugar topped with a layer of caramel. Even though the dessert looks exotic it is quite easy to make. Wholesome Sarda Farms milk makes the custard rich and delicious.


For the caramel

  • 1 ‏tablespoon water
  • ¼ ‏cup sugar

For the custard

  • 1 ‏cup Sarda Farms milk
  • ¼ ‏cup sugar or as required
  • ½ ‏teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ‏eggs, whisked


Pre-heat the oven to 160 degree Celsius.

For the caramel:

Place sugar and water in a pan and heat on low flame.

Heat till the sugar starts caramelizing-turning brown. Take care not to burn it. Do not stir.

Divide and pour into 3 ramekins or oven safe moulds.

Let it cool, the caramel set and become hard.

For the custard:

Whisk together eggs, milk, sugar and vanilla. Stir so that the sugar dissolves.

Pour this custard over the set caramel in the ramekins.

Prepare a water bath by filling a baking tray such that the water comes halfway up the ramekins.

Place ramekins in water bath and bake till the custard almost sets about 20 minutes. (Timing may change depending on the oven efficiency and size of the ramekins)

Take it out of the oven, cool on a wire rack and chill for several hours.

To serve run a knife around the edge of the custard and invert it onto a serving plate. Gently tap the bottom of the ramekin to unmould the crème caramel.

Serve immediately.
