Chocolate 7 cup Barfi
As the name suggests Chocolate 7 cup Barfi is made using 7 cups of ingredients. Chocolate 7 cup Barfi is a tasty variation of the traditional 7 cup barfi. The indulgent sweet is simple to make but is a bit laborious and requires a lot of patience and arm strength.
Sarda farms ghee, made using traditional methods and additive free milk add flavour and richness to the scrumptious treat.
- 1 cup besan (chana dal/gram flour)
- 1 ¾ cup sugar (you can use 2 cups if you like it very sweet)
- 1 cup Sarda Farms ghee
- 1 cup Sarda Farms milk
- 1 cup freshly scrapped coconut
- ½ cup good quality cocoa powder
- ½ cup cashew nut powder
- Handful of cashew nut halves or pieces for decoration
Grease a pan or a steel plate lightly with ghee.
Melt the remaining ghee in a heavy bottom pan on low heat.
Add besan and whisk to avoid lump formation.
Stir and cook for about 1 minute till you get the typical aroma but it does not turn brown.
Add all the other ingredients one by one.
Stir to mix everything together. Remove lumps using a spoon or spatula.
Cook the mixture on low to medium flame, stirring continuously.
Cook till the mixture thickens and comes together as one mass (about 25-30 minutes) and ghee starts oozing out. Drop a small portion of the mixture in cold water and check f it is done. If it hardens immediately it is done.
Take out the mixture into the greased plate and press with the back of the spoon or use a foil to spread it uniformly and level the surface.
With a sharp make square or diamond shape indentations in the mixture.
Place cashew nuts halves or pieces in the centre of each piece and press.
Cool completely and then cut into pieces.
Store in an airtight container. Refrigerate if keeping for a longer duration.
