Gratin is a classic French dish with a browned crust made with breadcrumbs and/or melted cheese. Cauliflower Gratin is a rich baked casserole prepared using cauliflower florets dressed with white sauce, topped with bread crumbs and cheese and then baked to get the brown crust. Serve Cauliflower gratin as a side dish with roasts or with slices of garlic bread for a comforting meal mini meal.
Wholesome, fresh cow milk from Sarda Farms makes a rich, silky white sauce which is used to make this delicious Cauliflower gratin.
- 1 ½ cups bite sized cauliflower florets, blanched or steamed to cook them partially
- 1 ½ cups white sauce made using Sarda Farms milk
- 1 tablespoon Sarda Farms unsalted butter
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- ½ teaspoon black pepper powder
- 1 teaspoon salt or to taste
- 2-3 tablespoons bread crumbs
- 2-3 tablespoons grated cheddar cheese
Pre-heat the oven to 180 deg C.Grease a 6 inch baking pan with butter.
In a pan melt the butter on low heat.
Add the garlic and onion.
Sauté till the onion turns translucent.
Toss in the cauliflower florets and stir.
Take pan off the heat.
Sprinkle half of the pepper powder over the florets and mix.
Place and spread the cauliflower florets on the base of the greased baking pan.
Pour the white sauce over the florets.
Top this with bread crumbs.
Spread cheese over the bread crumbs layer.
Bake for about 15-20 minutes till the cheese melts and the top browns. (Baking time may change depending on the oven efficiency)
Note: For a variation you can use Broccoli, Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes or mix vegetables instead of Cauliflower
