Barley & Jowar masala roti (flatbread)

Barley & Jowar masala roti is a gluten free flat bread, which makes for a healthy light meal/snack or breakfast. Additive free Sarda Farms dahi adds a delicious tang to the roti while fresh ghee adds flavour. You can use any other flour of choice in addition to or instead or barley and jowar.



  • ½ ‏cup Jowar (sorghum/millet) flour
  • ½ ‏cup barley (Jau) flour
  • 3-4 ‏tablespoons Sarda Farms dahi
  • 2-3 ‏tablespoons Sarda Farms ghee
  • 2 ‏green chillies, minced
  • 3-4 ‏garlic pods, minced or crushed
  • ½ ‏teaspoon cumin seeds
  • ‏Handful or coriander leaves, chopped
  • ‏Few sprigs mint leaves chopped
  • 1 ‏onion, chopped
  • 1-2 ‏tablespoons sesame seeds
  • ‏Salt to taste


Add the flours, chillies, garlic, onion, coriander leaves, mint leaves, salt and cumin seeds to a mixing bowl

Whisk dahi with little water and add to this.

Mix and make a pliable dough. Use water if required.

Make 4-5 portions of the dough.

Grease a non-stick pan with little ghee.

Place a portion of the dough in the pan and pat to make a thin circle (roti). You can also pat the dough on a plastic sheet/kitchen towel and then transfer it to the pan.

Make hole in the centre and drizzle few drops of ghee.

Sprinkle sesame seeds all over the roti and press lightly.

Cook on low-medium heat till the lower side starts browning.

Flip and cook on the other side for a minute.

Repeat this with the rest of the dough portions. Serve immediately with pickle/chutney of choice
